Williams comes from a childhood of athletes. His father, uncles, cousins, friends...all athletes. So, his athletic proficiency should be no surprise. Ball was one of da boys.
In fact, the nickname "Ball", was a reference to his successes in any sport involving a ball.
Yet, amidst this sea of mega manly meatheads was one shining beacon of femininity. His kid sister, Carmichael (given a boy's name because everyone was so sure she'd be a boy).
Being the simple-minded, macho men that they were, Williams' family raised Carmichael in the most stereotypically feminine way they could. Unlike big brother Ball, little Carmichael wasn't raised on sports, physicality, or productive activity. She was raised on..."girly stuff". As a result, Carmichael grew up to be super, duper "girly".
This had 2 interesting effects on big brother Ball, who, in spite of their completely opposing interests and personalities, was very close with his kid sister:
Effect 1: Ball views every female a frail little thing, incapable of doing anything physically demanding...just like kid sister Carmichael.
Effect 2: Ball was inadvertently exposed to a lot of REALLY GIRLY STUFF growing up.
As Ball grew into a young man, effect 2 started to manifest itself in his personality.
He demonstrated a taste for fashion and exhibition. He believed in the beauty of the male body. Much to the chagrin of his family and friends (except Carmichael), he turned his back on his many sports scholarships to pursue a career in modeling and acting...and he is GOOD at it.
Sensitivity. Grace. Glitter. Gloss.
And, somehow...still a meathead.
